Stone Roses Poems

I wrote this fire poem, below, in the hiatus before the Stone Roses reformed:

John Squire and Ian Brown

There are certain men beyond compare
For whom criticism has no real worth.
Two men who, if they had a care
Could have laid claim to the Earth.
If all the world was as a stage,
Two men could have played the greatest parts;
For them the way was not to rage
But pen words from truest hearts
And melodies that struck a chord
And though John left to follow other things,
And though Ian’s voice was sometimes flawed,
They truly were the nineties’ kings.
And let us not forget Reni, Mani and Cressa
Without whose genius mankind would be the lesser.

I altered it slightly once they had reformed:

The Stone Roses

There are certain men beyond compare
For whom criticism has no real worth.
Four men who, if they had a care,
Could lay a claim to rule the Earth.
If all the world was as a stage,
Four men could play the greatest parts;
For them the way is not to rage
But pen words from truest hearts
And melodies that strike a chord
And though John might sometimes play a wrong note,
And though Ian’s voice is sometimes flawed,
Come election time, they’d get my vote
And with Reni on drums, and Mani on bass
They are four kings, or together, one ace.
